At Her Heaviest Weight, She Decided to Make a Change
A Houston woman recently lost more than 200 pounds and transformed her entire life. How did she do it? The answer is surprisingly simple.
She simply walked the pounds right off. In 2017, Shenisha Armealine knew that she needed to make a change when she stepped on the scale and was startled by the number in front of her. At 442 pounds, Armealine was the heaviest she had ever been.
Surviving Hurricane Harvey Made Her Prioritize Her Health
Armealine had just experienced a traumatic natural disaster and lived to tell about it. Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on her hometown of Houston, Texas, and it almost effectively ruined her life.
The hurricane caused destruction to everything in its path. “I lost everything I owned,” she revealed in an interview with Good Morning America. To combat the stress, Armealine decided to go on regular walks.
She Started Walking for Her Mental Health
“My mental health was not really well, and I just started walking,” she said. Armealine started off small and began by walking 15 minutes a day.
It was a subtle victory, but the regimen would be just the beginning of her weight loss journey. Eventually, she worked up her stamina and started jogging. Armealine was focused on living a healthier lifestyle. She also enriched her diet, and the excess weight slowly melted away.
Even 15-Minute Workouts Were Considered a Victory
Armealine believed that every step forward was an achievement on her path to improved mental and physical health.
Some days were more productive than others, but she knew that she had to stay consistent. “Even if I could only go 15 minutes tops — and had to take seven breaks — I did it,” she said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle.
Getting Therapy Was an Important Milestone
Armealine was already getting her daily steps in, but she still wanted to do more. She enlisted the help of a therapist to guide her on her transformative journey.
She took on more healthy habits such as journaling and reading. Armealine was investing in herself, and her efforts were finally paying off. “I’d been given steps towards loving myself,” she proudly stated.
She Dropped Down to 375 Pounds
As she learned more about healthy living, Shenisha Armealine made more tweaks to her lifestyle.
She started drinking protein shakes and taking supplements, and she incorporated other exercises into her daily workout routine. Jumping jacks, squats, and more lengthy jogs were all things that she did to stay fit and trim. By 2018, she was seeing results in a major way. She had slimmed down to 375 pounds and she was elated by her progress.
Joining a Gym Made an Even Bigger Difference
By the time 2019 rolled around, Armealine was still committed to her positive lifestyle. She dropped another 75 pounds, and that motivated her to try new ways of staying in shape.
She became a frequent visitor of the gym in her apartment complex and eventually felt confident enough to purchase a Planet Fitness gym membership. “I was nervous,” she admitted. “I usually don’t step out of my comfort zone, but I knew I was doing this for my spirit.”
She Got the Extra Push She Needed
Armealine had already made great strides forward on her own, but she still strived for a better life and needed some assistance. She credits the gym for being a positive influence in her life.
She knew that she was unsure about where her fitness journey would take her, but she found a community and a support system at the gym. “I didn’t know where to start,” she said, before adding, “And they wanted to help.”
She Shared Her Story on Good Morning America
These days, she has dropped down to 224 pounds and she is no longer embarrassed or ashamed by the number on the scale. Her hard work has been impressive and her determination is inspiring.
She has gone public with her weight loss journey and has appeared on shows such as Good Morning America to discuss her wellness voyage. “This is not just weight loss or weight gain. This is motivation,” she said.
She’s Proudly Maintaining Her Healthy Habits
Armealine wants to share her experience in hopes of encouraging others to make similar changes in their everyday lives. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes effort, but even small wins are cause for celebration.
“Once you realize who you are and you can love yourself, once you can believe in yourself and love who God created you to be, the sky’s like literally the limit,” said Armealine.

Shenisha Armealine is still focused on her fitness and she regularly chronicles her weight loss journey on TikTok and YouTube.
The social media influencer is devoted to staying in shape for herself, and to being a great role model for her kids. “There is nothing you can’t do,” Armealine said of the power of having a positive mindset. She is living proof that anything is possible, and she is thriving thanks to her amazing lifestyle transformation.
